The Lansky PS-MED01 Tungsten Carbide sharpener is like having a total knife sharpening kit in your pocket. This sharpener can also be used for serrated blades, hunting knives, fishing knives, gut hooks, and just almost any other type of knife blade.
The term used by Lansky for this blade is “First Aid for your Blade!” It is the first responder for field repairs on a variety of knife blades. In addition to the tungsten carbide sharpener, the Blademedic features ceramic sharpening rods that enable you to put a polish on a finished edge in as little as three to four strokes; a serrated knife sharpener which is made to get into small serrations; and, a diamond tapered rod, for quick maintenance and reconditioning. Pre-set sharpening angles are at 22.5 degrees to obtain a 45 degree inclusive angle. The diamond rod is 600-grit and the ceramic rods are 1000-grit.
The Blademedic received 4.6 out of 5 stars from Amazon customers. Overall, they think it is a great design and works well for a compact unit. One customer thought the sharpener was small and effective, but heavy because the body is metal, and not plastic like other sharpeners in this category. There were some concerns that the diamond rod doesn’t stay in place, but P. Peters noted that you have to push it into the opening hard enough, so that it connects with the little metal piece that holds the rod in place. Buzz carries it in a work vehicle and says it is a quick way to sharpen a pocket knife. Most customers think the Blademedic is a nice unit.
